Tankless Water Heaters Need Maintenance Too!

Tankless Water Heater

One of the beauties of tankless water heating systems is that they have less contact with the water that actually goes through the system. The less surface-to-water contact there is, the less corrosion or deterioration that can take place over time. Basically, an on-demand water heater is going to require less maintenance than a tank system that has to hold all of that water. However, this isn’t to say that a tankless system doesn’t need any maintenance.

Water heater service in Grand Rapids, MI is vital, regardless of the type of water heater you own. Tank systems and tankless units alike will require yearly maintenance to stay effective and efficient. While your tankless water heater might not see the same kind of wear and tear or problems that a tank system might, you’ll still encounter some serious issues if you leave it neglected and without maintenance.

What Happens During Tankless Water Heater Maintenance?

First of all, not all of our maintenance is adjusting a water heater system. A lot that goes into maintenance is a system check up, a multi-point inspection process that allows us to check all of the bells and whistles of your system. While tank water heaters might physically have more components that require check-ups and likely replacements, tankless water heaters also need to be inspected.

Think about it this way, a tankless water heater system doesn’t rely on a hot water tank, but it does rely very heavily on the water heating element. Your system’s gas burner or electric coils need to be inspected and components need to be replaced if something is looking worn down. The last thing you want is a tankless water heating system that can’t easily heat your water. At that point, you’re just paying all this money for a faucet that only gives you cold water.

“Less Maintenance” Doesn’t Mean “No Maintenance”

When we say tankless water heaters require “less maintenance” than a tank water heating system, we don’t mean “no maintenance at all.” Tankless systems still have daily contact with water and are heating up at a rapid pace. All of this means that there will be some wear and tear that needs to be addressed by a professional eventually.

It is true that tank water heaters deal with more issues like corrosion and rust, because there’s more metal that’s in contact with water. This is one of the great unique perks of a tankless system, it only has very few components that come in contact with water, so you’re less likely to see those kinds of problems. But we still highly advise tankless water heater owners to invest in maintenance.

Signs of Disrepair

Sometimes a tankless water heater will show signs of disrepair. This does not mean you should just schedule routine maintenance and all will be well, this means you might actually need repairs! If you notice signs of corrosion on your tankless water heating system, if it starts leaking, or if it’s generally not giving your home the hot water it needs, then you need water heater repairs.
